Zahida Parveen Mughal was a labour rights activist even before joining National Steering Committee of Women Workers Alliance. From the past 32 years, she is associated with Pakistan Workers’ Federation (PWF) and 24 years with Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s (IESCO) Labour Unity Union as a Chairperson and Associate General Secretary, respectively. By profession, she is a data entry supervisor at IESCO. She is also a master trainer on labour rights and is passionate to work on organizing and unionizing women workers so that they are able to raise voice for their issues. The lack of unionizing amongst female workforce compelled her to join WWA. The experience of working as a part of WWA gave her insight into the vulnerability and issues of women at all levels including those in managerial positions. This experience enabled her and other alliance members to pressurize a hotel in Islamabad to provide the benefits and salaries to two of its female employees as they were terminated from their jobs as a punishment of participating in the hotel’s labour union. Zahida wants to continue working for the right of unionization of women workers and harassment free work environment.
